I have a hard time with buying earphones. My favourite of all time were the Sennheiser CX300 Precision from 2006. The sound was awesome, they were lightweight, waterproof-ish and cost £27 from Amazon. My mates bought some too.
The only issue with them is that they weren’t very durable and only lasted a year or so until they needed replacing and the 2010 and newer versions aren’t as good.
I tried the ones with the inline mic but they just couldn’t deliver the sound. The reason I have a hard time is that you cannot trial earphones – understandably for health and sanity reasons. I paid $120AUS for some V-Moda buds in Australia afew years back and they were terrible, but I couldn’t return them and within 2 months of poor sound quality they fell apart. So I do alot of research around buds and then am quite conservative of spending too much.
The latest earphones I’ve tried are the House of Marley – Redmeption Song earphones. I chose them because of the price, the looks, the materials and the reviews being pretty good.
I’ve really like these, for £50 there is a fantastic sound range with high tops and clear mids with a sensible amount of bass. The build has been great and the wire is a cool Rasta influence braid that is fairly tangle free.
- Poor Mic
- Prominent wire-thud
I was going to put that the left earphone has split as a con but really after 24 months of extended daily use it’s understandable and it the only thing that’s going. I fixed it with some super glue but it won’t last.
I have used these literally everyday, including at the gym, for work, for dj’ing and even when I go to sleep in noisy places. They are pretty awesome as earphones.
Average Chap Rating – 7/10
